Drums are very complicated if you don’t know what you are talking about and its allot harder then it looks for instance moving your arms and legs at different times all at once continuously. This is one of the biggest problems in drumming because if you are left handed you play hitting the High Hat with your left and the Snare with your right and if you are right handed its the opposite so you have to cross over your arms. A basic Snare and High Hat beat isn’t difficult for anyone even when you adding in the Bass drum after every Snare Hit, but trying to lift the High Hat do a Snare and High Hat beat and hit the Bass drum once then twice in-between Snare hits that’s where the problem starts id suggest getting a teacher because they will teach you the proper way but if you really don’t want one then use these sites
These two sites go through the basics and teach you basic drum patterns and show you good tricks to playing I think its one of the best ways to learn. It is also good for the more experienced players to use just in case they might not know something they might need.
Best to start of tho with a cheap guitar and work from there id sujest learning some easy stuff and a few basic chords and build from that a few good things to start learning if you are a beginner are.
These songs are quite slow passed exept for teen spirit but the solos in them arnt hard and that will get you confidence up and for chords id say
These have a good slow beat and the chords arnt hard so try that out and if you want to try harder stuff or have any queastions email me my emails on the home page.
Bass most people think bass should be the same as the guitar and played at the same time but that is very untrue because having different bass and guitar riffs can be very useful to a song such as the bass line in Sweet Child o Mine that riff is not only fun but as well as the drums it gives it a beat of its own, as if the bass was the same as the guitar there would be less of a thick ness to the song and it would seem basic and hollow. Bass gives to me music more of a warmness and can sound awesome at times like the intro riff of Hysteria by Muse that riff is great and makes the song sound great.
Also if you are just starting to learn bass its best to start of without a pick to harden your fingers because if you drop it when your playing you can play with out your fingers bleeding much or at all. A good site to look for Bass tabs is www.mxtabs.net or www.ultimate-guitar.com these sites have a huge range of tabs for bass, guitar and drums plus they also have lessons for bass and some reviews to take learning bass one step further.
Ok with vocals hitting high and low notes is no problem if your singing in a band because you can always change what key they play in so you don’t have to hit those notes, plus some singers think changing the notes they sing sounds good but to most people it doesn’t me being one of them keeping it simple and not going psycho with it is the best way to sing unless you can pull it off with out sounding like some crap pop idol who doesn’t know the first thing about music. A good way of learning what notes you are hitting is getting a piano playing a note and practising trying to mimic it with your voice best to start from C then go up the scale because most music is written in C.
Most singers need to know how to sing in C, D, E, F, G and A, B is not as common as the rest as I said before train by playing a note on a piano and mimicking it or any string and wind instrument work well. Once you know your basic keys you should try and identify your best key by seeing if you can reach that keys lowest and highest notes if you can do that then any notes in-between should be easy. The next step is to try and identify other peoples keys like for instance your favourite song try to work out what key that is in this is the more difficult thing after time you will soon know what key music is in automatically this is useful if you want a career in music. Like all instruments the voice needs to be looked after and by doing a few simple things you can achieve that easily by:
By doing these things you will keep your voice in great condition.
First don't try to hard with writing if you cant think of anything leave it for a little while and come back to it giving it a new start also when writting a song all the lines dont have to rhyme or anything like that. If you have written music already then writing lyrics about a certain subject will be hard so try to write the lyrics before unless your music has a certain theme.
Also if you are writing songs its best to do it on something you know or can relate to, in my experience i find that if u have something u really wanna write about write don't all the feeling you have of it and then after 3 - 4 pages there are your lyrics dude just fine tune it a bit move a few words about and there you go a song full of emotion and meaning personal to you.
